Lionel Cox won Gold and Silver medals in Cycling at the 1952 Helsinki games. In 1993 Cox was inducted into the Sports Australia Hall of Fame in recognition of his achievements for cycling.
Paul McLean played 31 test matches for Australia and 100 for Queensland; he won the rugby premiership for his school (St Joseph's, Nudgee) with a 55m penalty kick; Brothers club lost only one of the eight grand finals in which he played.
Marcus Faulks was a talented athlete who represented Australia in both kayaking and gymnastics.
Faulks was an emergency reserve for the men's kayak pair at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics and he then competed in men's gymnastics at the Tokyo 1964 Games.
Denis Donnelly OAM, Brisbane State High School, 1953
Denis graduated from BSHS in 1953, as the School Vice-Captain. After graduating from the Teachers' Training College in 1954 and completing compulsory National Service, Denis returned to State High as a Physical Education teacher in 1961.
After graduating with a B.Sc. Certificate of Teaching from The University of Queensland, he returned to State High to teach Mathematics, Science and Senior Physics. He was also heavily involved with our school's extra-curricular sports and was a life member of Queensland State School Swimming Association (QSSSA), with his Presidency spanning to several QSSSA committees.
