The Great Public Schools’ (GPS) Association of Queensland will acknowledge National Reconciliation week with an Indigenous Round.  During Round 6 (27 May), all GPS Flagship teams in Football and Tennis will be wearing Indigenous Socks designed by The Southport School.  The GPS acknowledges the work of the TSS Indigenous Education Officer, Mr Matt Dalton, and TSS Yalari Captain, Jay Campbell, and their team in the sock design, representing TSS and the colours of each of the 9 GPS Member schools.

National Reconciliation Week—27 May to 3 June—is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

The GPS acknowledges and pays respect to the past, present and future Traditional Custodians and Elders of this nation and the continuation of cultural, spiritual and educational practices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.  We will be taking to the playing fields on the lands of the Turrbal-Jagera, Yugambeh-Bunjulung and Yagara/Yugara people.

This year’s National Reconciliation Week theme, Be a Voice for Generations, encourages all Australians to be a voice for reconciliation in tangible ways in our everyday lives – where we live, work and socialise.  For the work of generations past, and the benefit of generations future, we encourage all Australians to act today for a more just, equitable and reconciled country for all.

The GPS Association ask all member school communities to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
