Nick writes long, short and medium-sized fiction, so far tallying 26 books for adults, teenagers and children. The majority of his novels are set in his home town of Brisbane and are humorous popular fiction about everyday life. He is the winner of a number of awards, including a Betty Trask Award (UK) in 1998 and Children’s Book Council of Australia Book of the Year Award in 2000

Nick's work has been published internationally in English and in translation, as well as being successfully adapted for film and theatre o Perfect Skin was the only novel nominated for an Australian Comedy Award in 2003 and has been adapted into a feature film, as has 48 Shades of Brown o has also written for newspapers, including the New York Times, the Guardian, the Australian and the Sydney Morning Herald.
